The Art of Gyotaku

Sandy and John Kabes will be demonstrating the art of Gyotaku on June 11 at 6:30 pm at the Carnegie Public Library of Steuben County.  Detailed fish prints are made by applying ink or paint directly to a real fish, then applying rice paper or fabric to the fish, and rubbing to receive the image. Eyes are then painted in and embellishments may be added to enhance the image. Seaweed and shells can be imprinted as well.
Everyone is welcome to attend, John and Sandy are members of the Angola Regional Artist Guild. You do not have to be an artist to come.

Peter Fletcher Performs at Carnegie Public Library of Steuben County

One of the nation’s finest classical guitarists, Peter Fletcher, will perform by the fountain area on Tuesday May 21 at 6:30 pm. He has sold out Carnegie Hall in New York several times! Fletcher began guitar study at the age of 7. In 1980, he was the youngest student in the master class taught by Jose Tomas, of Spain, Andres Segovia’s teaching assistant. He made his professional debut at the age of 15, with the Brasstown Concert Association in North Carolina. The guitarist is in demand in cultural venues throughout the country, and has appeared many times on radio and television, including National Public Radio. Fletcher’s recordings — The Art of the Classical Guitar, A Peter Fletcher Recital, Fedrico Mompou: Guitar Works, and Peter Fletcher Plays Erik Satie — have all received critical acclaim. Fletcher’s newest CD, Peter Fletcher Plays Baroque Music for Guitar, was released last October. The public is invited, no reservations required.
